FEATURE IDEAS
Playday celebrations are held throughout the UK,
and offer diverse and interesting stories. As well as covering
events in your area, here are some ideas to get the most out of
Playday.
Create a summer holiday
special/supplement
Give parents and children
ideas for the summer holidays. Feature Playday and also
other events and attractions in your local area.
Highlight a local issue
Is your area lacking in play
facilities? Have children been stopped from playing in their local
streets? Is there nothing for children and young people to
do in your area? Or are there examples of great new places for
children to play locally?
Feature Playday celebrations in your
area
Hundreds of events are happening around the country to
celebrate Playday 2010 - check out the Events near you pages to see if there is one near
you. If there isn’t a celebration listed for your local area,
encourage your community to celebrate Playday - you
could organise a Playday event or even sponsor one.
Run a competition
Why not encourage your readers to send
in their ideas for a perfect local place to play and publish their
entries in your Playday feature?
Alternatively encourage your young readers to enter the Playday
national drawing consultation. A
colourful template to assist consultation for Playday 2010 is
available. You could publish your reader’s entries as part of your
feature and then send them to us, when they will be entered
into our free prize draw.
Young roving reporters
Get a child’s eye view of
local play and ask children and young people to report on play in
your local area. What do they like to do? Where do they
like to go? What barriers do they face? What would they like to
improve?
Take over day
Go one step further and encourage
children and young people to plan, write, and edit your Playday
feature. Who better to talk about play, than children and
young people themselves? Every year, we publish a
special magazine, created by children and young people. Why
don’t you give it a go?
