2009: Make time!

The 2009 Make time! campaign highlighted that all children have the right to play and need time and space to play. The campaign called for everyone to make time to support children’s right to play – from parents, carers and teachers, to policy makers and planners.

Over 830 locally organised events took place across the UK to celebrate Playday 2009.

Research

A comprehensive body of research was published to support Playday 2009. The research included a national opinion poll conducted by ICM, an in-depth study with children and a literature review of existing research.

The research revealed that nearly three quarters of parents (72%) would like more time to play with their chidren or take them places to play, and that parents and children are increasingly facing pressures on their time to play.
